With accommodation in cabins for up to 100, separate staff / leader quarters, a commercial kitchen and main lodge, TSB TOPEC caters for large and small school groups as well as weddings, corporate team building and private functions. The environmentally sustainable Eco Lodge offers an off-the-grid accommodation option available for hire through BachBreak or as part of your private function booking. Two upgraded modern learning environment classrooms (plus the great outdoors classroom) complete the set-up, making TSB TOPEC an outdoor centre of Education and Recreation excellence.

A high spec accommodation block – sleeping up to 15 adults based on sustainability principles. The main two-storey structure utilises recycled shipping containers that have been refurbished and adapted to provide a contemporary, functional, cosy and environmentally friendly accommodation area. Lighting is provided by solar energy which is a feature of the communal living space, construction and cabinetry materials have been recycled where possible, hot water by LPG.

The central area is a great place to unwind at the end of a long day or can be used as an area for data displays and presentations.

The building is a model for sustainable living in the 21st century.

  • The High Ropes Course consists of three circuit challenges with flying fox descent – 3 wire bridge, flying kiwi, high traverse, centipede, dangling duo.

Tail race

  • Controlled, artificial streamway from Power Station
  • 200m long, grade 2 rapids
  • Easy access onto Waiwhakaiho river ( grade 2/3 )
  • Large eddy to practice your rolling or for flat water / slow moving water group sessions
  • Excellent venue for river safety education
  • Great for introduction to rafting

  • Ideal for coaching all kinds of paddling skills – kayaking, rafting, bugging
  • Runs as a grade 2 / 3 white-water trip that runs through the city of New Plymouth to the Sea
